There are many teaching contradictions that have been taking place in our children's school (Keming Primary) over these recent years. Singaporean Parents like us living in Bukit Batok with our children studying in Keming Primary, have actually observed that the deterioration in the quality of Chinese Language teaching (especially in the deterioration in the quality of Higher-
Chinese Language teaching in this school over these recent years), which many Singaporean Parents like us found it to be very strange.
While English-based schools like St Anthony's Primary and Princess Elizabeth's Primary which are also situated in Bukit Batok Neighbourhood, Singaporean Parents like us with Higher-Chinese Language learning children, who have chosen to register our children into Keming Primary School, which is known for its long-history of Chinese-based founders and Chinese-based roots, with our parents' main intention of preserving and cultivating the Higher Chinese-Language learning culture and roots in our locally-born
Singaporean children's education in Singapore.
Keming Primary School is a school known for many Singaporean Parents like us whom our children have our older cousins and older siblings who had all previously studied in this school and graduated from this school over these recent years.
Despite our children's school (Keming Primary) has Senior Chinese Teacher (Mdm Tong Min Lan) and also many other Higher-Chinese teachers especially from both Singapore-locally trained
and China-trained Higher-Chinese teachers with some of them even graduated with Masters in Chinese Language and their trained qualifications specialised in the teaching of Higher-Chinese
Language (for instance Mdm Zhang Yuping, Ms Tay Siak Ching, Mdm Ning Kun, Ms Chua Qiuyi etc).
Sadly however, over these recent years, the quality of Higher-Chinese teaching and learning in our children's school (Keming Primary School) is ridiculously deteriorating and deteriorating each year as realised and discovered by many parents with Higher-
Chinese children.
For Higher-Chinese teaching and learning over these recent years in our children's school (Keming Primary School), there are no:
1) No Consistent Chinese Learning of Tang Poetry (唐诗三百首) for Higher-Chinese students in
our children's school.
(In the past, only the previous old retired Chinese teachers like Mr Lim Siew Song taught some Ad-Hoc Tang Poetry (唐诗-李白) in his Higher-Chinese classes when some of our parents'children joined his Higher-Chinese classes).
2) In fact, overall there is No Chinese Learning of Tang Poetry (唐诗三百首)for Higher-Chinese students in our children's school at all.
3) No Three Character Classic, Trimetric Classic or San Zi Jing (三字经) for Higher-Chinese students in our children's school at all .
4) No Di Zi Gui (弟子规) for Higher-Chinese students conducted in our children's Higher-Chinese classes at all.
5) No Chinese Tongue Twister, Rao Kou Ling (绕口令) for P1 and P2 Higher-Chinese students conducted in our children's Higher-Chinese classes in the school at all.
6) No Inter-school Chinese Debate Training for Higher-Chinese students conducted in our children's Higher-Chinese classes.
7) No Structured Teaching of Chinese Idioms (成语) for Upper Primary Higher-Chinese students taught by the Higher-Chinese teachers in the school at all.
8) No Structured Higher-Chinese Comprehension Passage Tactics taught by our children's Higher-Chinese teachers in the school.
9) No Structured Higher-Chinese Composition Writing Tactics taught by our children's Higher-Chinese teachers in the school.
Ironically, in fact there are Tang Poetry, San Zi Jing and Di Zi Gui teaching and learning being conducted by the Higher-Chinese teachers for Higher-Chinese students in English-based schools
like St Anthony Primary, Princess Elizabeth Primary, and Lianhua Primary school in the Bukit Batok Neighbourhood over these recent years.
There used to be inter-school Chinese Debate training for the Higher-Chinese Higher-Chinese teachers in Keming Primary school for our children's older cousins who were also studying in the same school before under the previous retired teachers (Mdm Teh, Mdm Siew and the previous old HOD Mr Lim Siew Song)'s batch. Surprisingly, after the retirement of the previous old HOD Mr Lim Siew Song and the older teachers, with the change of new Chinese HOD (Ms Tay) and the new Chinese batch of Higher-Chinese teachers in the school after the year 2010 (the year after our children's older cousins had graduated in 2010), the quality of Higher-Chinese learning and teaching has obviously since been deteriorating and deteriorating each year as described above.
Parents who have also visited Keming Primary School's Principal Main Office can easily see a big Chinese Calligraphy being hanged up on the main wall of the Principal's Main Office which is always being hanged on the main wall of the Principal's Main Office for numerous years despite the change of new principals. This has clearly shown this school's deep Chinese cultural roots which have already existed and can easily be traced back to its Chinese-based founders and its Chinese culture roots.
Singaporean Parents like us staying in Bukit Batok Neighbourhood with the main intention of preserving and cultivating the Higher-Chinese Language learning culture and roots in our children since young by sending our children to Keming Primary School, which has long history of Chinese-based founders and Chinese-based roots, are deeply disappointed over these recent years in witnessing the deterioration in the quality of Higher-Chinese learning and teaching in this school.
We parents have already begun to wonder over these recent years:
•What have all these Higher-Chinese teachers been doing in this school over these recent years?
•What have the Chinese Senior Teacher (Mdm Tong Mi Lan) and the present Chinese HOD (Ms Tay Siak Ching) been doing in the school over these recent years?
•How come the Chinese Senior Teacher (Mdm Tong Min Lan) and the present Chinese HOD (Ms Tay Siak Ching) are not setting good examples in leading the Higher-Chinese teachers in maintaining and upholding the good quality of Higher-Chinese learning and teaching in the school over these recent years?
•Noting that the Chinese Senior Teacher (Mdm Tong), the present Chinese HOD (Ms Tay) and the Chinese Subject-Head (Mdm Kwan) have been receiving Super-Scale Salaries by working
in our Singapore Government Civil Service for so many years.
•Even when there was a so-called shortage of permanent Chinese teachers last year in 2014, Chinese HOD (Ms Tay), the Senior Chinese Teacher (Mdm Tong) and the Chinese Subject-Head
(Mdm Kwan) are still holding onto the special privileges of teaching 2 Chinese classes for last year 2014.
•The Senior Chinese Teacher (Mdm Tong) was even given new young trainee-teachers and flexi-adjunct old teachers as her assistants to help her in the marking of her two Chinese classes'
workbooks, worksheets etc and even the teaching of her two Chinese classes in last year 2014 despite the so-called shortage of permanent Chinese teachers in last year 2014.
•Have all these Higher-Chinese teachers been busy with running their own personal errands in the school for their own children's benefits in the school over these recent years just like Mdm Tong?
It is widely known that there are at least 5 Chinese-Language teachers, with their own children currently studying in the same school Keming Primary school in which they are teaching, namely:
1) Mdm Tong Min Lan and her three children
(1 elder son and 2 younger daughters).
2) Mdm Zhang Yuping with her only son.
3) Mdm Ning Kun with her only daughter.
4) Mdm Tan Siow Ching with her sons.
5) Mdm Zheng Lixian with her only daughter.
6) Mdm Karen Kwan with her two children (1 elder daughter and 1 younger son).
By the way, it is also openly known to many Singaporean Parents living in Bukit Batok Neighbourhood that Mdm Tong (Malaysian) is a very Kiasu-Parent who has always been spending alot of money in sending her 3 children to private tuitions in English, Maths and Science subjects in Singapore all these years.
Similarly, Mdm Zhang Yu Ping and Mdm Karen Kwan are also Kiasu Parents who spend a lot of money in sending their own children to private tuitions including Chinese private tuitions in Berries World Tuition Centre and Han Language Tuition Centre etc.
• Are these Higher-Chinese teachers (in Keming Primary School) trying to tell us Parents with Higher-Chinese children to spend our hard-earned money in relying and depending heavily on private tuitions instead in order for our Higher-Chinese children to be exposed to Higher-Chinese quality learning in Tang Poetry, San Zi Jing and Di Zi Gui etc?
